The risks of the new music economy
October 9, 2007
I just preordered In Rainbows and opted to pay a total of three pounds, forty-five pence (including the sneaky credit card processing fee). I think that means I paid about seven bucks for the album, which I consider to be a fair price. But since I could have legitimately paid nothing for it (context: Radiohead lets you pick your own price, starting at zero), I kind of got ripped off. But I figure if I’m going to ask for artists to start selling music without DRM and at a more reasonable price, I have to put my money where my mouth is and reward the artists I like who actually do it.
Anyway, seven bucks for a Radiohead album seems like a good deal to me. And I get to download it tomorrow!
