If you don’t mind speed-punk that’s barely comprehensible, and feel nostalgia for early-90s children’s television, you will definitely want to check out Mindless Self Indulgence’s Clarissa. I won’t spoil it for you. Just trust me.
And there’s A Somewhat New Medium, a spoken word piece by MC Paul Barman. I’m not saying everyone will like this song–it’s not even one of Barman’s best, and he has plenty of detractors. The reason I’m providing it is that in the song he talks about a gas station with a marquee with a historical quotation on it. Guess what–when I worked in San Francisco last summer, my office was down the street from this place! It is on Turk Street in the Tenderloin, near City Hall. I think the cross street is Hyde, or maybe Leavenworth. You can’t really tell from Google Maps, but trust me. The song is silly but I like it anyway. If you want to hear some of Barman’s more typical songs, check out Excuse You and Old Paul. All three songs come from Paullelujah!.
